Heidi’s Senior Portraits | Corvallis Senior Portrait Photographer

Heidi’s senior portrait shoot was unique — she wanted her photos taken at her work, so that’s where we did them! I love to shoot at new places with a variety of scenery, it’s really fun for me! Below are my favorites:

Heidi – it was so much fun photographing you! Enjoy your senior year!!

Lovely.

Baby “A” and Family | Corvallis Children + Lifestyles Family Photographer

I love this session! Baby “A” should be in theater with all the funny faces she can make — she’s such a character!! I had so much fun at this session!:

Ali Smith - What a cutie! Awesome session.

The F Family | Monroe Oregon Lifestyles Family Portrait Photographer

This is a three generation family photo shoot. I love doing these kind of photo sessions with all the combinations of family, and it’s so fun for me to go to new places to shoot. This family was great — most of them were visiting from other states. It was an honor to capture their families!:

Don’t miss this years bridal show in Albany. It’s the best LOCAL bridal show out there and it’s important to support our local vendors :

Baby M | Corvallis Children & Family Portrait Photographer

Earlier this summer I photographed this cute little guy! It was a beautiful day on the family farm, below are a few of my favorites:

Anthony + Kacey’s Wedding | Corvallis Wedding Photography

Anthony and Kacey’s wedding on Saturday was amazing and so much fun! It took place at The Vue in Corvallis. They are the sweetest couple, and have the cutest baby ever! Even though it was one of the hottest days of the summer (who would have thought that, it being September?!) we still went outside to do a few of the couple’s photos. Below are some of my favorites:

I love sunflowers — they are so happy and bright! The beautiful flowers were done by my favorite ladies Carol and Peggy of Celebration Florals.

Thanks Anthony and Kacey for having me photograph your wedding. It truly was an honor to be a part of your special day!

Joe + Naomi | Corvallis Business Photos Photographer

Joe and Naomi contacted me to photograph them for their business website. They play in a violin/guitar duo that provides music for weddings and events, and they are music teachers. They wanted photos with the Willamette Valley in the background, so we hiked Chip Ross park one morning and got some great photos. Below are a few of my favorites:

Thanks Joe and Naomi for hiring me to capture your vision! It was a pleasure getting to know you both, and you were so fun to spend the morning with!

Operating a Photography Business

Someone recently wrote me asking what it was like having my own photography business. She is starting out and wants to know the reality of it. Running this business is a lot more work than people think. Here’s a little peek into what goes on behind-the-scenes, these are just some of my job duties…

-customer service – responding to all emails and phone calls
-booking and scheduling shoots
-processing contracts and paperwork
-coordinating the shoot
-executing the shoot in a creative and artistic way (even when lighting is very challenging)
-downloading and sorting of images
-picking favorites for clients image gallery
-narrowing down favorites even further for blog post
-editing of all images
-uploading images to gallery
-corresponding to client about gallery and how to order
-ordering prints for client
-burning disc of images (includes making a pretty label for disc)
-mailing disc to client (packaging it in an attractive manner)
-creating and posting a blog post of favorite images
-designing of album in Photoshop
-ordering of album
-packaging album appropriately and shipping of album
-archiving files
-responding and posting via social media sites
-updating and maintaining websites
-keeping software and equipment updated and clean
-maintaining financial records for accounting & taxes

… And I’m sure there is more. So many people starting out think that owning and operating a photography business is cake. The photography part of it is definitely fun!! But you also have to be very organized and detail oriented to do the business part. I do everything myself which is rewarding but also stressful at times. If you are starting out, I hope you find this post helpful.

Overall, I love my job and wouldn’t trade it for the world!!

Felicia Mayo - Very well said! I know that doing it part time seemed way easier than doing it full time, and a lot more work than I ever thought! But I love it and wouldn’t change it for the world! :)

Allison | Corvallis Children’s Photographer

I’m so glad the warm weather is finally here!! I hope you’re all enjoying it as well. Please be patient with me as I am behind on blog posts — currently there are 11 sessions to post. I’ve been really busy so that’s good, but honestly it’s hard to keep caught up being that I’m a one woman business. In a perfect world I would have a PR person to do all my social networking and blog posts, maybe someday soon that will happen for me?!

Anyway, here’s my favorites from a mini-session I did of Allison:

Thank you to all my clients out there for keeping me busy! I love my job!!!
